Give Strategically When Possible

Discover how strategic giving can benefit both your community and your business. By thoughtfully aligning your charitable efforts with causes you respect, you can build meaningful connections and strengthen your professional network without compromising integrity.

Good morning.
This point is practical: give strategically when the opportunity exists.

While the primary reasons for giving are moral and spiritual, it is wise to support organizations and causes where the people involved can advance your legitimate business relationships. Generosity and professional networking may reinforce each other. There are zero requirements for your investment to double as punishment. If you're envisioning charity as penance, remember what I said last week about "giving back".

This differs from buying influence. This is about alignment. When you support groups whose members share your values or operate in related industries, natural relationships form. Those relationships often lead to mutual support, referrals, and shared opportunities. Strategic giving means being thoughtful.

I asked my two partner charities upfront if it would be an issue for me to use them in my promotional material. They're on board. They're happy to help me make profit to do good with them.

Choose causes you genuinely respect. Prefer organizations whose leadership and membership you would be glad to know. Let generosity open doors rather than close them. Because those who ask, shall receive and those who seek find and those who knock will have the doors opened to them. (Matthew 7:7)

In a networking community, this approach is especially useful. Your charitable activity becomes another way of participating in the broader business ecosystem. Done with integrity, it strengthens both your character and your professional network.

Give first because it is right. Then, where possible, give in ways that also build constructive connections.
